William Schaffner, M.D.

If you watch the nightly national news, you are likely to see Dr. William Schaffner carefully explaining the dangers that COVID19 poses for our country, how we can protect ourselves, and how to use the vaccine effectively. He is an expert in infectious diseases, particularly in vaccine efficacy, and has a much-appreciated ability to present complex scientific information in a cogent, understandable manner.

In addition to educating Americans, Dr. Schaffner is in the national spotlight as a member of the Communicable Disease Center (CDC) advisory committees concerned with developing a safe and efficient COVID19 vaccine policy. This is an issue of critical concern to the nation. He has advised both the National Football League and the National Collegiate Athletic Association on how to protect fans during the difficult period when infections were widespread and surging.

Dr. Schaffner is Professor of Medicine, Preventative Medicine, and Health Policy at Vanderbilt School of Medicine. He is currently Medical Director and Past President of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases.
